According to a report by the Manchester Evening News , the 19-year-old is under scrutiny for a post that some have deemed to carry racial connotations.
The incident revolves around a photograph shared by Garnacho, capturing a moment of celebration among teammates, including Andre Onana, following their dramatic 1-0 victory in a Champions League group match against FC Copenhagen. The controversial aspect of the post comes from the inclusion of gorilla emojis, which raised concerns about racial insensitivity.
It’s worth noting that Garnacho swiftly deleted the post upon being made aware of the potential implications and backlash it could generate. Nevertheless, his actions have not gone unnoticed, as the Football Association (FA) is now examining the situation. They may decide to charge the Argentine attacker with a breach of their guidelines on racially sensitive social media posts.
The incident highlights the growing importance of maintaining a responsible online presence, especially for professional athletes. In the age of social media, such actions can have significant consequences, not only in the world of sports but in broader social and cultural contexts.
