Share:Arsenal is reportedly in a strong position to secure the signature of Leicester City midfielder, Youri Tielemans, whose contract expires at the end of the current season. The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Belgian international for over a year now, and the latest reports suggest that they may finally get their man.
Tielemans entered the final year of his contract with the Foxes last summer, and it was expected that he would leave The King Power Stadium at that time. Despite being valued at around £30m, no move was made for the player. Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, expressed his desire for Tielemans to extend his contract with the club, but the player has reportedly indicated that he has no intention of doing so.
With the January transfer window now closed, it appears likely that Tielemans will become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.
Football Insider has reported that Arsenal is “well placed to agree an early deal” for the midfielder in the coming months. However, Barcelona and Newcastle United are also said to be “plotting to sign” Tielemans, who is “preparing to walk away” from Leicester City.
Despite interest from other clubs, Arsenal is currently considered the “frontrunner” to secure the services of the talented midfielder. It is considered “unlikely” that Tielemans will remain at Leicester City, with “all signs pointing towards” his exit at the end of the season.
Tielemans is likely to earn a significant pay rise this summer, with several clubs showing interest in the player. It remains to be seen where the midfielder will end up, but Arsenal seems to be in pole position to land the highly-rated Belgian.
