Arsenal is actively pursuing a top-tier defensive midfielder this month, with their sights set on Everton’s Amadou Onana.
Share:Sources suggest that the Gunners have been closely monitoring Onana’s standout performances, considering him as a strategic addition to their squad. The 22-year-old, who made a £33 million move to Everton in the summer of 2022, has swiftly established himself as one of the most promising young defensive midfielders in the league.
Arsenal envisions Onana as a prospective successor to Thomas Partey, with the potential to form a robust midfield partnership alongside Declan Rice. Despite the interest, the North London club has yet to submit an official proposal, leaving uncertainty regarding whether they will formalize their interest with a bid in the coming days.
Everton, currently grappling with a 17th-place position in the league table, faces the dilemma of potentially parting ways with a key player in the midst of the season. The club’s priority remains securing their Premier League status for the next season, and a mid-season sale could have detrimental consequences.
On the flip side, the temptation of joining a prestigious club like Arsenal might prove tempting for the 22-year-old midfielder. The prospect of showcasing his talents in the Champions League with a move to the North London club could sway Onana’s decision.
According to reports from TeamTalk, the potential transfer fee for Onana is estimated to fall within the range of £70-£90 million. As of now, Arsenal’s intentions remain in the realm of speculation, and the football world awaits to see if a compelling proposal will be presented to Everton in the coming days.
