Arsenal Legend Doubts Midfielder’s Abilities But Applauds Squad’s Maturity
Arsenal’s January signing, Jorginho, has been met with mixed reviews by the Gunners’ fanbase. Former Arsenal midfielder, Emmanuel Petit, has recently admitted that he is not a huge fan of the Italian international.
During the winter transfer window, Arsenal was actively seeking reinforcements, but failed to secure Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. As a backup, technical director Edu brought in Jorginho from Chelsea for a fee of around £12 million. Despite some skepticism, Jorginho has since settled in well at the Emirates Stadium, particularly during Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Aston Villa last month.
However, Petit, a World Cup winner, remains unconvinced by the 31-year-old midfielder. Speaking to Premier League Odds before Arsenal’s victory over Everton this week, Petit said, “I’m not a big fan of Jorginho and I think he’s very happy he’s left Chelsea’s dressing room – all of a sudden he looks like a different player.”
Despite Petit’s reservations, Jorginho’s performances have been key to Arsenal’s success this season, with the Gunners currently sitting five points clear of second-placed Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings.
Although City will continue to put pressure on Arsenal, the team’s maturity and happiness, as noted by Petit, have been crucial factors in their success.
Speaking before the Gunners beat Everton this week, Petit said “City will put pressure on them every single day, but they are showing so much maturity and happiness. Happiness is so important and you can see that from Jorginho, he’s a different player.”
Arsenal will be looking to continue their title charge when they welcome Bournemouth to the Emirates.
