Arsenal’s defender, Gabriel, has become the latest prominent player to attract interest for a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

A curtain-raiser to the 2023-2024 season saw the 25-year-old Gabriel conspicuously omitted from Arsenal’s starting XI against Nottingham Forest, marking a surprising and noteworthy development. The Brazilian who has risen in Arsenal’s defensive ranks during the previous campaign, now finds himself the subject of Saudi Pro League’s ambitious transfer pursuits, having enticed notable football luminaries such as Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson and Brazilian prodigy Neymar, both lured by the allure of an unprecedented £2.5 million weekly wage package.
While these astounding remunerations have undoubtedly captured the imagination of top-tier talents, the North London outfit remains steadfast and under no imperative to offload Gabriel. Conspicuously absent thus far is an unequivocal offer for the defender, whose acquisition from Lille commanded a considerable £27 million during the summer of 2020.
As the scenario unfolds, Arsenal would inevitably need to contemplate a worthy successor should Gabriel’s departure become a reality. Among their strategic targets, Crystal Palace’s steadfast defender, Marc Guehi, has emerged as a focal point of the Gunners’ long-standing admiration. The English prospect, however, is equally coveted by Chelsea in what appears to be a tug-of-war for his services, underscoring his burgeoning reputation as a prized asset.
