In recent reports circulating from Barcelona, there’s a growing buzz that Mikel Arteta is deliberating a potential departure from Arsenal at the conclusion of the ongoing season.
Share:This speculation arises despite the Arsenal manager’s contractual commitment until 2025. While the rumors suggest Arteta has discussed the possibility of leaving with his inner circle, sources close to Arsenal vehemently deny the accuracy of such claims.
Interestingly, SPORT, Barcelona’s eminent sports daily, asserts that the timing of these rumors is purely coincidental and unrelated to the recent announcement of Xavi stepping down as the manager of Barcelona at the end of the season.
Xavi expressed the belief that a point of no return had been reached and emphasized the need for a change in dynamics at the club. He mentioned discussions with the board and confirmed his departure on June 30th, citing it as the best decision for all parties involved.
Mikel Arteta, who took the reins at Arsenal in 2019 after serving as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, has achieved notable success. Under his tenure, Arsenal secured two Community Shields and the FA Cup, narrowly missing out on the Premier League title last season. Furthermore, Arteta has steered the Gunners back into the Champions League.
It’s worth noting that Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, has been an avid admirer of Arteta. Previous speculations suggested Laporta’s intent to replace Ronald Koeman with Arteta in 2021, although ultimately he opted for Xavi as the managerial choice. The dynamics of managerial movements in both Barcelona and Arsenal will undoubtedly be closely monitored in the coming months.
