Barcelona is reportedly eyeing a move for Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara to address the absence of the injured Gavi.
Share:In light of Gavi’s unfortunate season-ending injury, Barcelona is actively exploring potential reinforcements, with Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara emerging as a top target. The 19-year-old Gavi suffered a significant blow, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during Spain’s recent group stage victory over Georgia.
Gavi, a key figure in Xavi’s squad for the past two years, leaves a notable void that will undoubtedly impact Barcelona’s performance throughout the remainder of the season and potentially Spain’s campaign in the upcoming Euros.
In response to this setback, Xavi is swiftly searching for immediate midfield backup, and numerous names have already been linked to the Catalan club. SPORT reports that Thiago is a primary candidate, especially considering the Spanish midfielder’s expected return to action in January. Thiago, who has not featured for Liverpool since April, may find himself in a transitional period, given the substantial midfield changes at the club over the summer.
For Jurgen Klopp, with no discussions about renewing Thiago’s contract – set to expire at the end of the season – and the player’s impending return to fitness, the January transfer window could present an opportune time to consider potential moves.
