Having joined the Magpies in January of the previous year in a noteworthy €42 million deal, Guimaraes has swiftly become an integral part of Eddie Howe’s squad, propelling them to secure a coveted spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
However, acquiring the services of the Brazilian maestro will come at a hefty price. Barcelona will need to dig deep into their coffers, as a staggering sum nearing €100 million is being mentioned in the corridors of Camp Nou. Nevertheless, such financial considerations appear not to deter the Blaugranas, as they remain undeterred by the lofty price tag associated with Guimaraes.
Undeniably, Barcelona’s manager, Xavi, has repeatedly emphasized that securing a new pivot is his utmost priority in the forthcoming transfer window. Should the Catalan giants decide to make a splash in the market this June, it is highly probable that their focus will predominantly gravitate towards reinforcing the defensive midfield position.
The allure of Guimaraes lies in his remarkable versatility, capable of exhibiting his skills both as a deep-lying playmaker and higher up the midfield ranks. Renowned for his impeccable passing range, the Brazilian virtuoso’s vertical through balls possess the uncanny ability to dissect even the most resolute of defenses. Moreover, his adaptability is evident in his ability to thrive both as a double pivot and a single pivot, further enhancing his allure in the eyes of potential suitors.
As the summer transfer window beckons, football aficionados eagerly await the developments surrounding Barcelona’s pursuit of the coveted Newcastle star.
