Barcelona have a chance to extend their lead in the La Liga title race after Real Madrid lost 1-0 to RCD Mallorca.
Share:Barcelona received a major boost in their pursuit of the La Liga title as arch-rivals Real Madrid suffered a setback in the form of a 1-0 defeat to RCD Mallorca. Prior to tonight’s crucial encounter with Sevilla, Real Madrid had the opportunity to reduce the five-point gap with a victory at Son Moix.
However, the reigning champions were unable to make the most of their opportunity and suffered a 1-0 loss, with Nacho Fernandez’s own goal in the 13th minute proving to be the difference. Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio had the chance to equalize from the penalty spot, but was unable to convert.
As a result, Barcelona have the chance to make a massive leap towards the title and increase their lead at the top of the table to eight points with a win over Sevilla at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona are in good form, boasting a 14-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. They face a stiff test against Sevilla, who have won three of their last four games in all competitions and are showing signs of recovery under Jorge Sampaoli.
Xavi Hernandez and his team must seize the opportunity presented by Real Madrid’s slip-up and take advantage to strengthen their grip on first place in the title race.
