At just 19 years old, Diomande has rapidly risen through the ranks to establish himself as a crucial first-team player for the Portuguese outfit. His performances on the pitch have not gone unnoticed, with several top clubs casting covetous glances his way.
A recent report via Fichajes has thrown Chelsea into the spotlight as the frontrunners in the race to secure the services of this promising young defender. However, they face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City, both of whom are keen on adding his talents to their squads.
The reason behind Chelsea’s interest in Diomande lies in their quest to find a quality, long-term alternative to their experienced defender, Thiago Silva. The young defender has shown immense potential and is believed to be on the cusp of developing into a top-class player in the seasons to come. Chelsea’s pursuit of Diomande raises the question of whether a manager like Mauricio Pochettino could help him unlock his full potential.
Arsenal, too, find themselves in a similar boat, with the need for additional defensive options. Although they secured the signing of Jurrien Timber during the summer transfer window, an unfortunate injury on his debut has left them wanting more defensive depth.
The cost of acquiring the young defender’s services is reportedly around €50 million, a significant sum, and the willingness of clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City to meet this valuation remains uncertain. Nonetheless, with their financial resources, they are certainly in a position to pursue this potentially game-changing talent.
