Share:In what could potentially be a significant move for Chelsea, the club is reportedly eyeing a summer transfer for Sporting CP’s talented midfielder, Manuel Ugarte. As per a recent report from Football Insider , the Premier League side has been consistently scouting the 22-year-old, hinting at a possible forthcoming bid.
It comes as no surprise that Chelsea’s deep pockets could facilitate a move for Ugarte, who has a release clause of £53 million embedded in his current contract. Having already splashed around €600 million on fresh recruits since their change of ownership, the Blues are set to continue their squad revamp during the upcoming summer transfer window.
With a rather underwhelming season leaving them languishing in the bottom half of the table, Chelsea is eagerly looking to bounce back and reestablish themselves as title contenders next year. To achieve this, reinforcing the squad and addressing key areas is of paramount importance, particularly when competing against formidable opponents such as Manchester City.
One such area in desperate need of strengthening is the defensive midfield position. In this context, the potential acquisition of Manuel Ugarte could be seen as a strategic move by Chelsea. The young midfielder possesses the qualities to serve as a long-term partner for Enzo Fernandes, forming a solid foundation at the heart of the Blues’ midfield.
Furthermore, the future of Chelsea midfielders Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Mateo Kovačić remains uncertain, with rumors suggesting potential departures from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. Consequently, the urgency to bolster midfield depth becomes even more apparent.
As the summer transfer window looms, all eyes will be on Chelsea as they look to solidify their squad for the challenges that lie ahead. Should the reported interest in Manuel Ugarte come to fruition, it would undoubtedly be a significant step in the club’s quest for redemption and a renewed title charge in the forthcoming campaign.
