Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure at Chelsea has had a less than auspicious start. Following a highly anticipated preseason, the Argentine tactician immediately set about reshaping the landscape at Stamford Bridge.
However, a mere six matches into the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, the wheels appear to be coming off. With just a solitary victory, a paltry tally of five goals scored, and the ignominy of conceding six, Pochettino’s early efforts have come under severe scrutiny.
In response to the growing concerns, Pochettino has called for patience and composure, underlining the long-term nature of his project.
Nevertheless, the ever-present trigger-happy tendencies of club ownership cast a shadow over his future. It’s worth noting that during Todd Boehly’s ownership, Chelsea has displayed a penchant for swiftly parting ways with managers, including luminaries like Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Frank Lampard. Unless there is a marked upturn in fortunes, Pochettino’s name may well join that list.
In times of adversity, the unwavering support of the squad becomes paramount. According to reports, Pochettino enjoys a favorable rapport with his players, a factor that could significantly affect his prospects. As it stands, it appears he will be afforded the opportunity to navigate the turbulent waters ahead.
