Antony’s high-profile transfer to Manchester United from Ajax in the summer of 2022, marked by a €95 million investment, has not met expectations.
Share:In the summer of 2022, Manchester United secured the services of Brazilian winger Antony in a high-profile transfer from Ajax, shelling out a substantial €95 million to fulfill the desires of their newly appointed manager, Erik ten Hag.
However, the 23-year-old’s stint at Old Trafford has failed to live up to the initial anticipation. Despite a handful of commendable performances, Antony’s overall impact has been subpar. Over 56 appearances, he has managed a modest 11 goal contributions, leaving fans and management wanting more.
In the current season, Antony has featured in 12 matches, accumulating over 600 minutes on the pitch. Regrettably, he has yet to make a significant contribution to goal-scoring. This dip in form has resulted in the Brazilian winger slipping down the pecking order under manager Ten Hag.
While the Dutch coach remains interested in retaining Antony, Manchester United is reportedly exploring the option of offloading him in the upcoming transfer window. Though the club may not recoup a substantial portion of their initial investment, they seem willing to part ways with the talented winger, signaling a potential change on the horizon for Antony’s career at Old Trafford.
