The Ecuadorian midfielder has promptly broken Rice’s recently established transfer record, making him the most expensive signing in the league’s history.
Rice’s high-profile move from West Ham United to Arsenal, valued at a reported £105 million according to BBC Sport, had barely settled before being eclipsed by Chelsea’s considerable outlay for Caicedo’s services.
Upon being questioned about relinquishing his newfound status as the league’s priciest transfer, Rice lightheartedly alluded to having adorned his wall with the accolade, only to now humorously concede its swift removal merely two weeks later. This jovial response from Rice suggests a gracious acceptance of the situation.
“Can’t believe Caicedo has broken your record already though Declan?” 😅
“I had it up on the wall for two weeks, it’s come down already!”
