Inigo Martinez, the Athletic Club defender, has been the subject of interest from Barcelona for over a year now. Last summer, the Catalan giants attempted to secure his signature, but the transfer was called off due to concerns about Financial Fair Play and the acquisition of Jules Kounde.

Despite this setback, Barcelona’s interest in Martinez has not diminished. According to SPORT , the Spanish international is willing to wait for Barcelona in the summer, even though he has other clubs pursuing him.

The 31-year-old defender has made it clear that he wants to join Barcelona, and the club is equally eager to secure his signature on a Bosman deal. In fact, there have been recent discussions between Barcelona and Martinez’s representatives, where the possibility of a transfer was discussed.

Barcelona has informed Martinez and his team that they remain interested in his services, but any move would be subject to their Financial Fair Play situation. Other clubs, such as Atletico Madrid, have taken notice of the situation and approached Martinez to explore the possibility of a transfer.

However, as per the report, Martinez has his heart set on joining Barcelona and is willing to wait for the club to sort out its affairs. He will not entertain other offers until he is informed that a move to Camp Nou is no longer an option.

Barcelona views Martinez as an important signing, as they look to add more experience to their defensive line after the departure of Gerard Pique. The Catalan club sees Martinez as a suitable replacement and is confident that his arrival will strengthen their defensive unit.

If Martinez joins, Barcelona will not pursue a right-back, as they believe that the position will be covered. Julian Araujo is expected to join Barcelona Atletic and will be called up by Xavi when needed, while Sergi Roberto is set to renew his contract. Additionally, if Martinez joins, Jules Kounde could play more at right-back, an idea that he is reportedly becoming more receptive to.

In conclusion, the interest in Inigo Martinez from Barcelona remains strong, and the Spanish defender is prepared to wait for the Catalan club to sort out its affairs before making a move.
