Eddie Howe’s team is reportedly eyeing Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah as a potential addition to bolster their defensive lineup.
Share:The Magpies encountered a setback after a promising season start, facing a string of injuries that notably impacted their defensive lineup. Sven Botman’s knee injury prompted the talented Jamal Lascelles to fill the void left by the Dutch defender.
While Botman has recently rejoined the squad, his absence shed light on the apparent deficiency in Newcastle’s defensive depth. In a bid to fortify the team’s backline, Eddie Howe is reportedly eyeing the acquisition of another central defender. According to Football Transfers , Jonathan Tah is on Newcastle’s radar.
The 27-year-old German international boasts a €18 million release clause, slated to become active next summer. However, there are murmurs that the Magpies might be contemplating an early move for Tah as soon as next month. Despite being a linchpin for Xabi Alonso’s side, which currently leads the Bundesliga by four points ahead of Bayern Munich, Tah’s potential transfer raises questions about the timing.
Bayer Leverkusen is in contention for a league title this season, adding an element of uncertainty to Tah’s decision-making process. Whether the defender opts for a January move or prefers to hold off until the summer months remains an intriguing subplot as the transfer window approaches.
