Joe Willock sends very emotional message to Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah.

Former Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock has taken to Instagram to throw his support and praise his former teammate Eddie Nketiah after his heroic display against Manchester United.

In a crucial Premier League match on Sunday, Eddie Nketiah stepped up for Arsenal and delivered a brace against Manchester United, propelling the Gunners to the top of the league with a five-point lead over reigning champions Manchester City.

Nketiah, who has been a bit of a wildcard in recent years, has struggled to secure a consistent starting spot in the Arsenal lineup.

When Gabriel Jesus got injured in December, there were calls for manager Mikel Arteta to bring in a new striker. However, Nketiah has silenced his critics with his recent performances, having scored four goals in his last five Premier League games.

With the return of Jesus looming next month, Arteta will have to decide whether to stick with the in-form Nketiah. The English striker has also been Arsenal’s top scorer across all competitions this season with a total of nine goals.

Nketiah, who came up through Arsenal’s academy alongside fellow midfielder Joe Willock, was part of the squad that lifted the FA Cup and Community Shield in August 2020. Willock, now with Newcastle, took to social media to express his excitement for his friend’s success, writing “Brought a little tear to my eye, so happy for you bro.”

He also went further to write on his Instagram story saying “If only they knew half of the journey, so happy for you ❤️”

Nketiah joined Arsenal from Chelsea’s academy in 2015 and made his first-team debut in a Europa League match against Bate Borisov two years later.

He later joined Leeds United on loan in August 2019, but failed to make a significant impact, scoring only three goals. He was recalled by Arsenal in January 2020 and played an important role in their FA Cup victory, coming off the bench in their 2-1 win against Chelsea in the final. He also started in their shootout win against Liverpool in the Community Shield the same month.
