Share:In what has been a challenging season for Erik ten Hag’s squad due to injuries in key defensive positions, the manager is actively seeking reinforcements. According to Romanista, Manchester United is showing a keen interest in securing the services of Gianluca Mancini, a seasoned 27-year-old Italian international.
Mancini gained prominence during his time at Atalanta before making a permanent move to AS Roma in the summer of 2020. Under the management of Jose Mourinho, Mancini has become a crucial part of the team, featuring in 16 matches and even contributing with a goal in the current season.
Despite his contract with Roma running until 2027 and the club’s reluctance to part ways with him, Manchester United is reportedly considering making an offer. While Mancini is committed to Roma’s project, the allure of joining the Red Devils might prompt him to reconsider his future.
Erik ten Hag is specifically targeting a central defender with the experience and leadership qualities to seamlessly integrate into the starting XI. Mancini, with his wealth of experience, emerges as an ideal candidate to partner with Raphael Varane or Lisandro Martinez in the heart of United’s defense.
Although Roma values Mancini as a cornerstone of their team, a potential transfer could provide them with substantial funds for squad reinvestment. The situation remains fluid, but the prospect of Mancini joining Manchester United adds an intriguing layer to the ongoing transfer discussions in the football world.
