Marcus Rashford is convinced Anthony Martial is a top striker who always tries to get on the scoreboard whenever he’s on the pitch, just like he did against Aston Villa.

Marcus Rashford has heaped praise on Anthony Martial after the Aston Villa win, insisting that the Frenchman is a top striker who always gets on the scoreboard.

Martial has missed loads of games this season due to several injury issues but in the few appearances he’s made under Erik ten Hag, he’s made massive impacts, just like he did on Thursday night against Aston Villa.

The France international scored the equalising goal seconds after Ollie Watkins had broke the deadly shortly after the interval.

Martial’s goal against Villa was his fourth goal in six appearances across all competitions this season so far and has two assists to his name.

Rashford is convinced Martial will always get on the scoreboard but also believes that it’s up to his team-mates to create goalscoring chances for him.

Speaking after the 4-2 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford, the England international said: “He’s [Anthony Martial] a top number nine. When he’s on the pitch he’s always going to score goals, it’s up to us to create the chances in good positions for him. I’m happy that he’s fit.”

Alejandro Garnacho was another player who impressed on Thursday night against Aston Villa after he came off the bench halfway through the second half and provided two assists.

Rashford was pleased with the 18-year-old’s performance and urged him to keep improving as he has more goals to bring to the team.

“He’s [Alejandro Garnacho] full of energy and confidence,” Rashford told MUTV. “It’s refreshing to have someone like that on the bench, who can come on and make a big impact. It’s just the start for him. There’s a lot more goals to come.”

Marcus Rashford obviously can play in any position across the front three but once again admitted that he feels more comfortable playing on the left-wing.

The 25-year-old played on the right wing against Aston Villa last weekend and was dreadful but became effective on the left-wing on Thursday night.

After Alejandro Garnacho came on, the Man United academy graduate moved to the centre, with Anthony Martial already hauled off, and still performed at top level.

Speaking about his best positions, Rashford said: “I think if you watch me play on the left, I make a lot of runs into that position [centrally] anyway. I try and end up in the face of the goal, that’s where the goals are scored so that’s where I want to be.

“I’d say I’m more comfortable on the wing. A lot of it [centrally] is with the game back to goal, I need to improve a lot on that. I think I’m alright with bringing others into the game, but when I have to hold it is something I need to work on.”

Manchester United will return to action this weekend when they play visitors to Fulham in the Premier League. United lost their last league game 3-1 at Aston Villa and as a result, they need a response at Fulham on Sunday.
