Chelsea is set to bolster their goalkeeping ranks in January, with manager Mauricio Pochettino pinpointing the position as a team weakness.
Share:While the Blues made a significant move during the summer, signing Robert Sanchez in a £25 million deal with Brighton, the unexpected nature of the transfer raised eyebrows. Sanchez, previously not entrusted with the number one shirt at the AMEX Stadium by Roberto De Zerbi, has started all 19 games for Chelsea this season. However, his performance has been subpar, conceding 26 goals and managing only five clean sheets.
A setback occurred during Chelsea’s recent 2-0 loss to Everton, where Sanchez sustained an injury, prompting Pochettino’s urgency to address the goalkeeping situation.
Reports from Football Insider suggest that the Chelsea boss views the position as an area of weakness and is keen on securing a new goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window.
Despite the earlier acquisition of Serbia international Djordje Petrovic during the summer, who is likely to step in during Sanchez’s absence, Chelsea is actively pursuing a top-tier goalkeeper to serve as the new number one. The intent to sign a shot-stopper in January appears to be part of Chelsea’s pre-existing plans, irrespective of Sanchez’s availability.
