Currently occupying the 10th spot in the table, Newcastle’s standing could be at risk pending the outcome of Wolves’ game in hand following their recent defeat to Manchester City.
Despite earlier rumors linking them to a new striker, such as Dominic Solanke, the Magpies are now turning their attention to fortifying their defensive line. The Mirror reports a heightened scouting emphasis on Sporting Lisbon’s Diomande, a 20-year-old who has garnered interest from top European clubs. The Mirror’s report indicate that Diomande’s valuation stands at £70 million, with Newcastle likely to commence negotiations below this figure. However, the intricacies of a potential deal may necessitate patience until the summer, given the current Financial Fair Play restrictions limiting the club’s transfer market activities.
