Share:In an exciting development for Newcastle United, it appears that the club is on the verge of capturing the signature of AC Milan’s esteemed midfielder, Sandro Tonali. According to reputable sources at The Athletic, negotiations are at an advanced stage, with an agreement expected to be reached for a substantial sum of approximately €70 million.
While the transfer saga surrounding Tonali has garnered attention from various clubs, including Chelsea, it seems that the Magpies have positioned themselves as the frontrunners in this race. The absence of Champions League football for Chelsea this season has potentially dealt a blow to their ambitions of securing the highly-rated 23-year-old’s services. In contrast, Newcastle, buoyed by this potential acquisition, could significantly strengthen their squad if they can successfully conclude deals of this magnitude.

Newcastle’s pursuit of midfield reinforcements has been evident throughout the summer, as they have been linked with several notable targets. Previous reports indicated their interest in Inter’s Nicolo Barella, as well as Leicester City’s star playmaker, James Maddison. However, it now appears that Tonali has emerged as the primary target for manager Eddie Howe, a player they identified even before the transfer window swung open.
Should the Magpies succeed in securing the signature of the former Italy Under-21 international, who has amassed an impressive 130 appearances for AC Milan, their spending spree is unlikely to come to a halt. According to reliable sources at The Athletic, Newcastle’s ambitions extend beyond Tonali, as they are also keen on bolstering their squad with the addition of a wide forward, a center-back, and a full-back.
