Dutch powerhouse PSV Eindhoven has expressed keen interest in acquiring the services of sidelined Barcelona defender Sergino Dest during the ongoing transfer window.
Share:In a potential shift of fortunes, Dutch football giants PSV Eindhoven have emerged as prominent contenders in the race to secure the signature of Barcelona’s marginalized defender, Sergino Dest, during the ongoing summer transfer window. Sources close to the situation reveal that PSV Eindhoven’s interest in the American prodigy is gaining momentum, positioning them ahead of rival suitors such as OGC Nice and various English clubs.
The 22-year-old fullback, who joined the Catalan ranks for a substantial €21 million fee approximately three years ago, has encountered a turbulent trajectory since his arrival. Although he displayed glimpses of promise in his inaugural season, Dest’s trajectory faltered significantly following the appointment of Xavi Hernandez as the helmsman of Barcelona’s first team.
In an intriguing twist of fate, PSV Eindhoven appears to be a potential destination for Dest, a familiar ground as it was the very club he faced during his stint with Ajax four years ago. As revealed in our sources, PSV Eindhoven has taken the lead in the race to secure Dest’s services this summer. This development, however, raises eyebrows given the existing arsenal of right-back options at the disposal of PSV Eindhoven’s tactician, Peter Bosz.
The tactician’s current roster features a trio of adept right-backs, thereby inviting speculation on how Dest’s inclusion might harmonize with the team’s tactical blueprint. Despite this uncertainty, PSV Eindhoven’s proactive pursuit positions them as prime contenders to orchestrate a loan agreement with the USMNT starlet, a move they are evidently willing to substantiate by absorbing a considerable share of his annual remuneration, estimated at €10.7 million.
