João Cancelo has become a prominent figure in the current transfer market buzz, capturing the attention of several top clubs. The highly-regarded right-back is on the verge of returning to Manchester City this summer, having completed his temporary stint at Bayern Munich.
Barcelona has emerged as one of the clubs keen on acquiring Cancelo’s talents, with the Portuguese international reportedly being their primary target to strengthen their right-back position. However, the Catalan giants are currently constrained by financial limitations and can only consider a loan deal at this stage.
Nevertheless, recent reports from Diario Sport suggest that Barcelona’s hopes of securing Cancelo’s signature could be dashed by Arsenal. The English Premier League giants are reportedly prepared to swoop in and secure Cancelo on a permanent basis this summer. The Gunners have already initiated contact with the player’s representative and begun negotiations with Manchester City.
Cancelo’s relationship with Pep Guardiola is said to be less than ideal, leading to his availability in the transfer market. While the English champions are open to a sale, it places Arsenal in a favorable position in the race for the right-back, potentially overshadowing Barcelona’s pursuit.
The prospect of a move to Arsenal, in particular, may prove enticing for Cancelo. Consequently, Barcelona is likely to face disappointment in their pursuit of the Portuguese international, as he seeks to take the next step in his illustrious career.
