888Sport - Overview & Rating
888Sport, pronounced Triple–8 Sport, is a fairly new player in the online betting market. 888Sport was established in 2008 as part of 888 Holdings, a well–known provider of online casino and poker websites. 888Sport was the group’s first foray into sports betting, and since it has grown into a rising star. Aggressively seeking to offer promotions and garnering plenty of attention for its use of social media at the time of the Groves – Froch fight in 2014, this might be an outsider but it’s ready to pack a punch. Can it deliver a knock–out blow to its more established rivals?
Football fans in Britain will be familiar with the brand – 888Sport is currently an official betting partner to three teams in the EFL Championship. In the past, 888Sport was shirt sponsor for Middlesbrough FC, but that was before the sportsbook was established and the deal referred to the 888 brand’s casino and gaming options. Once the company was ready to move into sports betting, 888Sport followed by sponsoring a stand at Fontwell Park racecourse and embarked on several other deals. One of the biggest of these was a season as shirt sponsor for Sevilla FC in the Spanish Primera Division. Today, 888Sport is the NFL’s official betting partner in the UK and Ireland.
In 2019, 888Sport made a key acquisition that secures the long–term provision of its betting services. 888Sport bought up Dublin–based Dedsert Ltd, which had provided the software that powered UK–licensed bookie BetBright.
With a sombre black background and discreet orange details, 888Sport has a distinctive feel that’s easy on the eye. The lack of garish colours makes for a relaxing screen, the prominent panels advertising the latest promotions and offer scrolls at a sedate pace. We’re worlds away from some of the more frenetic designs seen at other bookies.
Which is all very nice, but how user–friendly is 888Sport? Let’s start with some positives. The upcoming key markets are all easy to find at the top of the page. Navigating to different markets, prematch or live, is simple enough using a menu bar with little icons to represent the different types of sports. This is, perhaps, a small change compared with other websites, but it doesn’t take long to adjust. Another slightly unusual feature is the placing of the account information – it all sits to the left of the page, rather than the more traditional top right–hand corner. That right–hand column is devoted to the bet slip – big, well laid out, easy to read and offering an extra where punters are linked to similar bets after making their pick. Down the left column, beneath your account information, there’s a sidebar with links to different areas of the website – homepage, offers, recommended bets etc. Since 888Sport isn’t just a sportsbook, there are also easy links to 888Casino and 888Poker, both of which can be found in the extreme top right. These are as self–explanatory as their names suggest.
However, it’s not all good news. There’s a tendency to hide markets somewhere below the headline games. This is especially noticeable on the in–play selections, where anything other than the day’s top football tends to be buried somewhere off the bottom of the page. OK, clearly most 888Sport punters will be more interested in the top matches, but there will always be plenty of bettors looking at a shrewd punt on a less prominent market. This system does not serve them well at all.
888Sport offers a series of apps to cover its sportsbook, casino, bingo and poker offer. This is available for Android and iOS platforms.
888Sport sportsbook does not go in for a wide sweep through the most obscure sporting byways. If you fancy a flutter on bowls or luge, look elsewhere. This website sticks to what it knows – the big markets are about horses, football, golf, tennis, greyhounds and the U.S. sports.
So what about the odds? 888Sport’s football prices tend to be competitive. You won’t find this company at the absolute top of the betting, but they won’t come trailing in behind the pack either. An upcoming Champions League game between Rennes and Chelsea saw 888Sport offering better than average numbers about the draw or a French success, and there were best prices for plausible first goalscorer candidates including Timo Werner (4.0), Kai Havertz (8.0) and Callum Hudson–Odoi (10.0).
That applies consistently. In the PSG vs RB Leipzig game, 888Sport was close to the top price for market leader Kylian Mbappe to open the scoring and had the best offer about Neymar beating him to the prize. However, the match odds for the big game on the Champions League card were a bit skinny – 1.6 about a Paris victory was almost as small as it got and prices for other outcomes were nothing to shout about.
At the evening race meeting in Wolverhampton, 888Sport was competitive again. In the 5:30 it matched the best price about red hot favourite Alexej, offering 1.67. It also matched the most generous rates for the rank outsiders in this field. In the 6:00, a far more competitive race, 888Sport offered the best prices on four horses that had a realistic chance of winning, including the favourite Top Breeze at 5.0. There’s every possibility of finding value here, therefore.
For in–play action, there are few streams, although the horses are well covered. Instead, there’s an animated breakdown of what’s going on, augmented with stats about the game you are following. 888Sport has a nice feature on its football markets, where you can have a live ticker on–screen updating the progress of several matches at once – good if you have a big acca or a portfolio of singles riding on the day’s coupon. On the downside, there is no indication of how much stoppage time might be played at the football – when the clock reaches 90 minutes it just stops until the joy or despair of seeing 90 morphs into FT.
In other sports, there is rather less information to respond to. And 888Sport makes some odd choices about what can go in–play: Russian Junior ice hockey is available, but the top–level KHL is missing. This does little to shake the suspicion that 888Sport is mostly interested in football betting, with relatively few other sports getting good live coverage.
888Sport welcome bonus offer is attractive. After signing up and depositing some money you should take a bet of at least £10 at 1.5 or better, and get £30 back in free bets, no matter you lose or win. A promise of £10 is also there, though you should wager x40 times in casino which makes it relatively unappealing if you are not a big casino fan. The only caveat with this offer is that the promotion must be used as 3x£10 freebies and it is claimed that one of them can be used on the 888Sport app. For customers who prefer not to use mobile devices, that would be a limitation if it was true. In reality, though, I only successfully placed all three free bets using my laptop, with no reference to any app.
Once active at 888Sport, the offers keep coming. You won’t find refunds on losing bets – the company’s philosophy is to celebrate winners. Therefore, the name of the game is to land winners that qualify you for freebies, odds boosts and the like.
During the Champions League group stage, placing a £20 bet using the Bet Builder or the Match Combos market granted a £5 free bet. If that free bet won, it came back as another freebie – recurring up to 10 times. Qualifying bets and free bets had to be at even money or greater odds, and the freebies could only be used on 888Sport’s football markets. It wasn’t quite as generous as the recurring free bet that was recently available from the Betfair exchange but still potentially pretty good. It’s not yet clear what will replace this offer now the Champions League groups are done, but there’s a similar offer on American Football – bet £20, get a £5 freebie on the NFL – only without the winning streak.
Another source of free bets in 888Sport – and initially without risking a penny – is the regular Up For 8 game. For every EPL matchday, gamblers can choose the outcome of eight selected games. Get all eight right and win £8,000. More realistically, for every correct pick, you can earn a £1 free bet. Not life–changing, but clearly nice to have. Your first two plays are absolutely free; subsequently, you’ll need to stake £25 each week to be eligible for this promo. During the NFL playoffs, there is a similar game available if you can make the right calls for each weekend. This time, though, it’s all or nothing – £5,000 if you answer eight of 888Sport’s questions correctly but no reward for seven out of 10.
For punters who enjoy finding the outsiders, there is a free £5 bet on offer every day if you back a winner at 4/1 or better in 888Sport. There won’t be much joy from this when betting on teams to win football matches, but it could be a big hit with the 888Sport horse racing markets.
It all adds up to a serious bonus proposition at 888Sport and one that’s well worth following closely.
To be honest, 888Sport’s customer services are a bit of a let–down. Yes, there’s a fairly substantial FAQ archive – but that kind of thing always has its limits, especially when you have a specific query about your account. Most rivals have an easily accessible live chat, or perhaps a link to social media accounts that can assist, but 888Sport merely makes reference to live chat in the depths of the ‘about us’ information without providing an easy–to–find link. There is a free telephone number – 0203 478 0670 for the UK – which is available during office hours, but users with questions are steered towards a form on the website which can be filled in. Then you wait for somebody to get back to you. It all feels a little bit 1990s.
That said, if the query gets a swift response, this system can still work for 888Sport. So, to put it to the test, I submitted a question about my Up for 8 entry at 1227 on a Tuesday afternoon. There was an immediate confirmation via email, with a reference number for my query. However, there was no response for a couple of days, by which time the query had resolved itself – something acknowledged in the eventual reply. Really, this could be better.
Worse followed when there was a delay crediting the recurring free bet on that Champions League promo. It took more than two weeks for the query to be resolved and, when 888Sport agreed that I should have been given a free bet, the group stage was already done and they could only offer a one–off £5 freebie, not the recurring free bet promised in the original promotion. That’s a frustrating letdown.
The 888Sport registration process is fairly standard. New customers are asked the usual questions, and there is the familiar caveat about possibly submitting further ID to verify the account. There is one oddity: 888Sports asks for customers’ occupations. It doesn’t seem to be a security question, just a bit of data harvesting. Perhaps entering ‘football referee’ means your account is suspended!
You can fund deposits with bank cards, Skrill, PayPal, MuchBetter and Neteller. The minimum is £10. Withdrawals can be made through the same sources, with a minimum withdrawal of £3. 888Sport supports several currencies, including Sterling, US Dollars and Euros.
The minimum possible stake is 10p. Withdrawals are capped at £250,000 for top–level football and motor racing. Most other sports have a limit of £100,000, with 888Sport applying lower figures to lesser–known sports.
In accordance with the UK regulations, all funds deposited at 888Sport are held in a separate account from company assets. However, customers only have medium protection in the event of insolvency, meaning that there is a possibility that not all deposits would be available if the company ceased trading.
Security and reliability
888Sport enjoys a good reputation, with no evidence of controversy stalking the bookmaker company. As you would expect, it complies with all the regulatory requirements to offer services in the UK (via the British Gambling Commission) and beyond (888Sport is registered with the authorities in Gibraltar and Malta). Involvement with eCogra ensures that online gaming is fair, and the software is regularly reviewed.
888Sport also takes a responsible view of controlling problem gambling. 888Sport cooperates closely with GamCare and GamStop. However, unlike some other companies, 888Sport doesn’t allow people with concerns about their gambling to easily access support and advice though live chat or similar set–ups.
Overall, 888Sport is an attractive offer in the online betting market. Its bonus offering is one of the most diverse, although the emphasis on rewarding winners means that one of the key virtues of freebies – a chance to insure some of your wagerings – doesn’t work so well here. However, the registration offer makes it worth getting involved, even if the others are best left to specialist punters. A few more streams would be welcome, too: at present, 888Sport offers very few streaming options compared with the big players.

Pros and cons
Yes, you can easily cash out with 888sport but players are restricted to certain sports – soccer, tennis and basketball and only single bets.
As with all bookmakers, this largely depends on the deposit method originally used. Withdrawals via bank transfer can take the longest whilst credit and debit cards are processed on the same day.
Best odds guaranteed is a feature available on 888sports on all UK and Ireland horse racing. If your selection wins or places at a bigger starting price, this offer is open to you.
Once registered, simply go to “Settings” on the left menu and choose the odds format and select your preferred odds style.
