Few people, barring a few optimistic Amiens fans, would’ve predicted the recent turnaround in form from Christophe Pélissier’s men, but the newly promoted team are starting to turn a few heads with their assured performances. All things considered, even though they lost each of their opening three matches, Amiens have made a pretty good start to life in Ligue 1.

In contrast, despite winning each of their first two matches, Marseille have made a below par start to the season. After failing to make the top four last season, improvement was definitely in order, but, though it is still early days, an upturn in both performances and fortunes is yet to really arrive. On the face of it, Rudi Garcia’s men are a decent side and, on their day, are capable of tussling with most of the best teams in this division; however, even with new signings that looked good on paper, Sunday’s visitors are finding it hard to impose themselves on matches, especially on the road.

As the bigger and better known club, Marseille do of course come into this match as heavy favourites, many people will be expecting them to get the job done with minimal fuss; however, claiming all three points won’t be easy. In recent weeks, the hosts have shown that they’re not to be taken lightly. At the prices, ‘Amiens Draw No Bet’ is the way to go ahead of this fixture.

They may well have lost to PSG on the opening day, but, since we all know how good that particular opposition are, a 2-0 defeat is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. What’s more, Amiens were a little hard done by in each of their two fixtures followed that opening day defeat, especially against Angers, where a 2-0 deficit was far from deserved. Defeated they may have been in each of those first three matches, but the performances of Christophe Pélissier’s side remained promising and they got their just rewards against both Nice and Strasbourg recently. Beating a useful outfit such as Nice (3-0), performing with great credit at both ends of the pitch in doing so, certainly bodes well, as does their most recent display away at Strasbourg.

In each of their last two, Amiens have shown that they can keep teams at bay before making them pay at the other end. They’re not the sort of side to go out and dominate for 90 minutes, but it would appear as though they’re comfortable enough both with and without the ball to stay in games, while, with the pace and power that they have on the counter, alongside a player such as Gael Kakuta, whose guile and skill should prove to be invaluable this season, they should have enough about them to get results. Against a Marseille side who’ve had the inconvenience of playing on Thursday night before travelling to this away fixture, the hosts could outperform their odds.

It’s not an overstatement to say that Marseille have found life tough in recent weeks. Rudi García’s men are simply not thriving in the final third, despite having some dangerous players in their ranks, while they continue to give chances away in the defensive third. As things stands, only four teams in all of Ligue 1 have conceded more shots at goal than Marseille so far this season, while they’re without a clean sheet in three league matches now.

All in all, even though the hosts come into this match with a fairly hefty price-tag, they look a good bet to outplay their rather unjust odds. At 39/20, with the insurance of money back in the event of a draw, Amiens are well worth backing to upset a big team in front of a home crowd for the second time this season.
