These two teams are at opposite ends of the League Two table but this match between Notts County and Colchester United could be a bit of a surprise package this weekend.

Notts County are one of League Two’s most in form teams at the moment having taken 16 points from the last eight games and winning their last two. All in all this puts them 20th and a huge 13 points above the dreaded drop-zone.

The Magpies have been very solid at the back in their last couple of matches with no goals conceded in their last two. They may have only scored two goals in those aforementioned recent wins, however, they proved a few weeks ago in a run which saw them score six goals in three matches back in mid-February, that they are capable of finding the back of the net on a regular basis.

New manager Kevin Nolan has come in and revitalised County’s home form and they are yet to lose a match at Meadow Lane under the former Leyton Orient boss, winning their last two on home soil.

Colchester still have high hopes of a play-off place as they currently sit in 9th and just two points off the top seven thanks to a run of two wins in their last three. However, it must also be mentioned that these two wins are their only victories in their last six. They need to put a more consistent run together if they are to creep into those play-off places.

John McGreal’s men have certainly prioritised the attacking side of their play throughout the campaign as demonstrated by the fact they have found the back of the net 55 times in their 39 matches so far. However, this emphasis on the forward line means they are quite open at the back, as shown by the 51 goals they have conceded – only one of the top seven has a worse defensive record.

67% of the U’s points have been earned at home and they have the second-best home record in the division. The fact they are not in the play-off spots in relation to this shows how poor they have been on their travels. There is no sign of this dreadful away form improving any time soon with no win in 2017 and losing four out of their seven away games.

As mentioned earlier, I actually think we could be in for a bit of a shock here if we are basing the result on the two teams’ position in the table. Notts County have been incredible at home since Nolan arrived whilst Colchester cannot buy a win on their travels. I am surprised that the home victory is as big as 33/20 – such a price is one to be taken advantage of.
